Redline needs Input Monitoring to hear your keyboard while you work in other apps. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Input Monitoring and turn Redline on.
Then reopen Redline. macOS only lets an app start listening when it launches, so granting permission to an app that is already running does not take effect until it restarts. Redline shows a “Reopen Redline” button when it detects this.
Turn Redline off in the Input Monitoring list, remove it with the minus button, then add it again and reopen the app.
No. macOS allows many listen-only keyboard taps at once, so Redline runs happily alongside Klack, Keeby and similar. You will hear both, so turn one down if that is not what you want.
Revs follow the pace you have held. Start typing and the engine climbs through the gears. Hold a rhythm and it settles into a cruise. Push past your usual pace and it drops a gear and runs for the redline.
Sensitivity sets the typing speed that counts as full effort — put it just above your usual pace. Rev range (Relaxed → Sport) moves the shift points; it shows the actual rpm for the engine you have loaded.
The menu bar panel has volume, engine on/off, shift sounds, induction, and the notch display. The Induction switch controls a resonant intake voice that opens under load. Redline does not add a constant wind or blower track.
A short pause eases the virtual pedal and adds a trace of overrun. Backspace and Forward Delete unload the drivetrain and play a quiet descending correction cue. Left Arrow and Right Arrow play directional steering detents. Steering keys do not raise the revs, and other navigation keys stay silent.
Open Settings → Garage, choose a preset, and drag the controls. The Garage applies changes to operating range, exhaust, combustion, induction, and cabin output while the engine runs. Cylinder count, layout, and firing pattern are read-only facts for the selected preset. Name the tune and choose Save as New.
Drag a value left or right to scrub it. Clicking without dragging does not jump the value. Hold Shift while dragging for fine adjustment.
Saved engines are plain JSON in
~/Library/Application Support/Redline/Engines/. Every field has a default,
so a working engine can be four lines. The folder contains a README describing each
field. Edit JSON when you want to change cylinder or firing data, then choose Reload.
Redline is a one-time purchase tied to your Apple Account. Sign in with the same account and choose Restore Purchase in the app.

The global monitor reads timing and seven coarse categories: character, space, newline, delete, navigation, Left Arrow, and Right Arrow. Redline distinguishes the horizontal arrows for steering cues.
