Redline for macOS · Last updated 1 August 2026

Redline never collects or transmits what you type. It contains no accounts, advertising, or general-purpose analytics. Purchase history and limited technical information are processed by RevenueCat to provide the optional one-time purchase. Nothing you type is sent to us, Apple, RevenueCat, or any other third party.

What the app reads

Redline plays an engine sound that responds to your typing. To do that it needs to know when you press a key. It uses macOS Input Monitoring for this, which you grant explicitly and can revoke at any time in System Settings.

From each global key press, Redline reads two things:

Every letter, number, and symbol collapses into the single “character” category. Redline distinguishes the two horizontal arrows so it can play quiet left and right steering cues. Before categorising a press, it checks only whether Command, Control, Option, or Fn is present so shortcuts can be ignored; it does not retain which modifier was used. Redline does not read the target app or enough information to reconstruct text.

The global keyboard tap is listen-only. It cannot alter, block, or inject input. Redline does not save or transmit the global key events or their categories. Auto-repeat, shortcuts, Escape, and function keys are ignored.

What is stored on your Mac

Redline stores your settings and aggregate activity counters in your Mac's local preferences. Those counters include total and daily key counts, odometer distance, best sustained typing speed, and longest streak. Redline stores Garage tunes as JSON files in its local Application Support folder. These records stay on your Mac and are not transmitted.

Purchases

Redline offers a one-time purchase through the Mac App Store. Apple handles the payment, and RevenueCat validates the App Store receipt and keeps the app's unlock in sync. We do not receive your payment-card or bank details.

RevenueCat receives an automatically generated anonymous app user ID, purchase history, App Store receipt information, last-seen time, device type, and operating system. Redline does not attach a name, email address, advertising identifier, typed content, or typing statistics to that record. We use purchase history for app functionality and aggregate purchase reporting, not advertising or tracking.

Read RevenueCat's privacy policy for details about its processing and data-retention practices.

Children

Redline is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date. The policy will describe any new data use before a version that uses it ships.
